Here's another cool display built by our friends at Alliance Studio (Steve Wang's team) for Riot Games "League of Legends."
This uses an HC-8+ as a custom-programmed DMX master. Several cogs are used to animate the smoldering trees and fire effects. It's on display at PAX West in Seattle this weekend.
Just found this picture on Steve Wang's Facebook page -- this is the team he assembled to build the display.
For those wondering, everything was sculpted from the ground up: each tree, Annie, and Tibbers. More than 4000 pounds of WED clay was used just for Tibbers, probably another 1000 for the trees and Annie. That's a lot of clay. The mold for Tibbers is immensely complicated as the arms and head come off for transport. Funny thing, though: the fiberglass shell for Tibbers only weighted about 70 pounds -- before fur, silicone, wiring, etc.
Another amazing job. Hope to see a video.
What happens to these displays when the convention is over? Does Riot Games it have a huge lobby?
My understanding is that they are stored in a warehouse in Las Vegas.
Steve's shop has also done a lot of work for Blizzard (we have HC-8+s in those, too), and Blizzard does in fact have a lobby where these things are on display.
