Audio recording Hardware

Jon, in your Audacity seminar at Hauntcon you mentioned a simple piece of hardware that you can plug a Mic into and do better recording than plugging the Mic into the PC.  I think it was some sort of solid state defice that you could then firewire or USB 2.0 connect to the PC and download the recorded sound?

What was the product called and who makes it?

I use the M-Audio FireWire Solo: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWireSolo-main.html

You can find similar devices that send their data to the PC via USB as well; my friend, Karmyn, uses a mic preamp/mixer that connects via USB (though the device she uses is no longer available).  The key is getting a device with good D/A conversion, typically 24-bit/96 kHz.
